Contemporary Latina/o Digital Culture Friday Talleres (Workshops)
In the second week of classes, students will be directed to a list of Latina/o-culture focused social media sites. Some Fridays, indicated as “Taller” on the schedule of classes, we will have more open-ended discussion related to current events and contemporary commentary.
- Students should follow the sites listed and seek out new ones, and incorporate reading them into their social media practices (on Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, and/or Twitter, etc.). The point is to incorporate more Latina/o culture-focused media into your existing media practices.
- For each workshop, students should select one article, image, or social media post from a contemporary Latina/o culture site and prepare for each Taller a response, with examples, to the following questions:
- What in this piece of art/commentary/media is new or confusing to me (if anything)? What do I not fully understand about it?
- What do I need to learn in order to more fully understand this source?
- What connections can I make between this source and readings from the previous Monday or Wednesday? (Insist on making connections even when the historical context is different; there are always connections
